Stairway to heaven

I found this on Trá Bán, a beautiful, sandy beach on the west end of Sherkin Island, and just a stone’s throw from the cottage. The tide had washed it ashore. I saw it from a distance, not knowing what it was. Then I lugged it, waterlogged and tangled in seaweed, across the wide expanse of beach right up to the road and onwards to home, leaving a trail of sand and water as I went.  It was between Christmas and New Year and my hands were frozen but I glowed with excitement. God only knows what I am going to do with it but it must have been put in my path for a reason.
