Changeable
On Sunday morning we left Cork city in a ‘deluge’ to make a day-trip to Sherkin Island for a ‘Bring & Buy’ fundraising sale in Nuala Mahon’s garden. The combination of heavy over-night downpours and high tides had resulted in the city centre being flooded. (A fairly regular occurrence as Cork city is low lying). We packed raincoats, and with the windscreen wipers at full throttle, we headed west, doubtful if the event would go ahead but keen to support it and hopeful all the same. The further west we went, the brighter it became and by the time we arrived in Baltimore an hour and a half later to catch the ferry, this is what the sky was looking like. We basked in the scorching sun on the top deck for the ten minute journey to the island (but had the raincoats close to hand at all times!). Those beautiful, though ominous looking clouds obligingly headed in-land, leaving us to enjoy a very hot and successful day in the most gorgeous island garden.
Wowing Wonderful Patsy … In your Ominous photo it looks like a long cloud travelator going off into the distance the way you have captured it … would love to hitch a lift on there Lol
I keep seeing a ‘genie in a bottle’ leaning menacingly over that little sail boat! 🙂
What a wonderful, spacious landscape photo with that amazing sky. Oh, beautiful Sherkin!
It changes in an instant so it was a ‘lucky take’! 🙂
Really dramatic photographs. You would love the fens – we have great skies here.
Sounds lovely!
I can totally relate to the rain clouds! Incredibly enough, Arizona during the monsoons is much like Ireland! These are wonderful photos! Changeable indeed! 🙂
Hi Maureen, monsoons in Arizona! Wow! 🙂
Those really are dramatic clouds! Beautiful!
…and it has rained in Cork city every day since… 🙂
Lovely clouds and was quite oblivious to floods in Cork City. Heard it was excellent out west but we had jobs to do up in the North of the County. 😟
I had a quick look at the peas early this morning so I can see that you have been busy! 🙂
You really lucked out, wildsherkin, with the weather and your photos of those dramatic looking clouds!
That’s exactly it, Andelieya….in the right place at the right time! P
Wonderful wild clouds….the sky is full of them over here in Scotland at the moment…..and like you often no rain follows……they just blow on past. They make for great photos though 🙂
Thank you. I came back to read your latest post and it is absolutely magical. What a beautiful way with words you have.
Very kind, thank you 🙂
Your presence was VERY much appreciated Patsy. Love the clouds
Ah, thanks Nuala. We loved every minute of it and well done again!
Wow, incredible clouds!!
Thank you. Just had a look at your heavenly pictures! 🙂
My goodness what a moment to capture!!!! Amazing fluffy clouds! I love them!
Great blog!
wow, those clouds are beautiful though!
They’re pretty dramatic alright! Just glad they decided to move on. 🙂
It’s one of the amazing things about Ireland, it could be raining in one field and the sun shining in the next !
I know… I wonder if that’s an Irish thing or does it happen everywhere!
