Despite the challenges of Covid19,  I am delighted to report that Sherkin Island’s annual community art exhibition has gone ahead and is currently running until 23rd August.

On in the Community Hall on Sherkin Island, the exhibition is open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 12 noon until 5:30pm. It operates to strict Covid19 guidelines including the use hand sanitisers, face coverings for all visitors and a one-way system in line with social distancing requirements.

The exhibition has been curated this year by Sherkin Island artist and graduate of the Crawford College of Art and Design, Jordyn Lynch, who has done a wonderful job.

It includes drawings, paintings, writing, sculpture, photography, textiles and ceramics, all created by islanders.

Postcard-sized original incognito artworks are also on sale for €10 each to raise funds for the Sherkin Island Ceramics Group.

Known as ‘island of the arts’, Sherkin Island has attracted a population of creative individuals including professional and non-professional artists, musicians, writers and photographers.

After the challenges that Covid19 has brought to this small community and island life, it is great to see this annual exhibition going ahead.

With thanks to Robbie Murphy for his lovely images.
