Shimmer
I have been given a little nudge to share my two exhibits in the recent Creative Diversity exhibition on Sherkin Island. So deep breath…and here we go. I had fun making the above needle felt picture and aimed to capture the rocky nature of Trá Crua (meaning ‘hard’ beach) and the changeable sky overhead. It all went a bit wobbly when I removed it from its backing, but we live and learn. I took this photo before completing it so I have added some more pebbles and rocks to the beach part.
Below, see my pastel of Silver Strand, using Rembrandt and Schminke chalk pastels.
Gorgeous work. I actually thought the second one was a photograph.
Thank you 🙂
Ther lower one is particularly impressive Patsy, really good. MM 🍀
Thanks for the words of encouragement, MM – and the coffee.
Sold at Tracton!
Now maybe you are just going to have to start listening to me Patsy, 😉 I am so delighted for you and not at all surprised. This is fantastic news…..😀 Crack open the fizz 🍸
Mesmerizing and inviting, both of them. I want to walk into them; sleepwalk into them, if necessary. So lovely. Your work moves and amazes me.
What a lovely comment! Thank you so much. Px
These are both delicious Patsy, so different yet both so evocative of the textures you are portraying, and just beautifully done.
Thanks Anna, it’s all trial and error but great to produce something all the same. 🙂
Patsy I love them both, I’ve only played with needle felting and not for many years now, Silver Strand is stunning, the way you have captured the shimmer on the water is beautiful, Frances
Thanks Frances. By the way, I love your Gravatar image and often wondered if it a felted piece? P
thanks Patsy, my gravatar is a detail from a died and painted, then machine stitched piece I did over 10 years ago, I’ve been blogging that long, my header on my blog is felt, it was wet felted and then machine stitched and hand beaded, I did wonder if to change it when I started posting about the garden but decided no it is part of island threads, Frances
Stunning Patsy. Needle felt work is new to me too. Looks so creative and the colours are divine.
Thanks Jean. It’s fairly new to me too but I am really enjoying trying to create an image using wispy fibres. It’s such a lovely medium but I have a long way to go.
Love them both. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a needle felt piece before, so well impressed, and I can’t believe the second one is pastel. Just wonderful.
Thanks Safia. I like trying different things. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t!
Patsy , what lovely works of Art…
Dan Mellamphy , Waiheke Island ,NZ
Thanks Dan! Lovely to see you here. Px
Beyond beautiful. I agree with everything Poppy said. I hope there will be more art sharing on your blog in the future : )
Anna, belated thanks for your comment. There just doesn’t seem to be enough time in the day but I am determined to spend more time on more creative things…
Beautiful artistry both works.
Thank you Vera. Px
Oh Patsy you’ve created a couple of beauties here .
Blustery Day – I love your felted nubbly rocks heaped up on the shore and softly whipped up clouds …
Silver Strand – well isn’t it just ! That water fair sparkles and ripples with great effect .. eyes squint at the shimmering horizon … Red Dot ? If not I do hope it’ll be framed and gracing your little cottage soon Patsy x
Thanks Poppy. No red dots for me but it was lovely to ‘air’ them all the same. We have a pastel exhibition coming up soon here in Cork so I will be putting Silver Strand in and another. After that, there will be plenty of white space awaiting on those cottage walls. 🙂
… and you know how to fix that 🙂
