Weekly photo challenge: Wall
There are times of the year when our cottage walls take on a whole new life of their own. The image above was taken in June last year but in honour of St Patrick, and the day that’s in it, here is our back wall ‘wearing the green’ to wish you all a very happy St Patrick’s Day.
Shirley Valentine: Hiya Wall.

Shirley Valentine: Well what’s wrong with that? There’s a woman three doors down talks to her microwave. Talking to a microwave! Wall, what’s the world coming to?
If only Sherkin Island’s walls could talk. Imagine what those walls would say of the countless generations who worked the hard land. It must have been back-breaking work but so essential when those boundaries shaped tiny pockets of precious land. Every wall seems to have a personality and character of its own, created by Sherkin people, past and present. It is great to know that the skill of dry wall building lives on today. Here are just some of the many lovely walls of Sherkin Island.
Patsy wildsherkin: Hiya Wall.

Patsy wildsherkin: Well what’s wrong with that? There’s a woman not terribly far from here who talks to the waves and to the cows, to the trees and to the breeze. Talking to a cow! Wall, what’s the world coming to?

Beautiful pictures Patsy. If the walls could talk…indeed.

There’s hardly anything built that I love better than a beautiful stone wall. What a lovely little tour of walls! These are well worth talking to any time, most especially if one’s accompanied by a willing dog or cow, or any such marvelous growing things as you scouted out here. Hope your 17th was excellent!
🙂

I love your interpretation of wall, especially when you say that walls have personalities. I think that too! If I see a bright brick wall, I think maybe it’s a wall happier than others with its robust, uplifting colours. The more jagged walls with rocks sticking out or uneven fronts, you’d think they are the unfriendly ones 😀
Thanks Mabel 🙂
Oh I’m envious 🙂 Looks like you’ve had some time to potter and ramble over beautiful Sherkin …. lovely Patsy really lovely x
ps That is one right nosy moo 😀
All from the archives, Poppy. And yes, that cow came way too close for comfort! 🙂
Wonderful photos.I have always loved that crinkly siver green lichen that only grows in the cleanest air. And how great to find a fellow chatter with cows 🙂
Me too. It’s so beautiful. Thanks Liz.
One of my most favourite movies! (Every time I mention it to someone, they look at me like I’m from Mars ~ apparently I am the only one in my entourage who ever even heard of Shirley Valentine!)
Gorgeous walls, Patsy! Can’t wait till I get across the pond to see them “live” ~ one day…
Dale, you will be welcomed with open arms.
Aww… thanks! I will now have to find a way to get there!
Hiya!
Long time ago I, too, talked to cows…
The world?
Still here….
Happiness to you, Patsy, on this green, green day.
Raye
Thanks Raye, and many happy returns. Why did you stop talking to cows?! Great to hear from you. I have so much catching up to do. Px
Funny how reading “hiya wall” makes me want to eat chips and egg!
Ha! It’s definitely a blast from the past…:)
